Principles/values:

The term 'gifted' refers to a child who has well developed learning skills and has a broad range of achievement at a high level.

The term 'talented' refers to a child who excels in one or more specific fields i.e. sport or music, but does not necessarily perform at a high level across all areas of learning.

At Silverdale Primary Academy we aim to provide a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs and abilities of all our children and provide opportunities for our children to compete and experience a variety of different stimuli (sporting events, science days with children from other schools etc.) We plan our teaching and learning in such a way that we enable each child to achieve the highest level of personal achievement.

Identification

Identification is not an exact science. It is an ongoing process based on a mixture of ‘hard’ data (assessments and tests) and ‘softer’ evidence (teacher input based on contributions in class, parent and peer nominations).

What does identification mean for my child?

Our Gifted and Talented register is updated termly; identification enables our staff to meet the learning needs of your child- helping to improve attainment, motivation and self- esteem. Children are identified in areas across the curriculum- from Literacy through to swimming! If you feel that your child is gifted or talented in any area please help us to identify them by contacting the class teacher or Mrs Buss.

Provision includes enrichment activities, workshops and visits with a specific Gifted and Talented focus, opportunities to work with like-minded children from different year groups and other schools.

How can I support my child?
  • Help in the identification process by completing a parent questionnaire (available from Mrs Buss).
  • Encourage a variety of interests and activities.
  • Encourage use of local facilities such as the library, museums and art galleries.
  • Help your child to discover how fun learning can be.
